Once insured, if you do not receive notice of amendment on renewal terms from BOCG Insurance before the expiry date of each policy year, just pay the required premium for the coming policy year and your policy will be renewed automatically.

Many popular adventurous sports are covered without extra cost, including bungee jump, hang-gliding, parachuting, rafting, speed-boating, jet-skiing, trekking, mountaineering, rock-climbing and hot-air ballooning, and the like. In the event of burglary while you are traveling away from home, your home contents will also be protected up to HK$25,000.


Automatic Cover Period Extension

If you are unable to complete your journey as a result of transport delay, the period of insurance for that journey will be automatically extended for free, subject to a maximum of 10 days or until the completion of the journey, whichever is earlier. (Only applicable to Single Travel Plan)

Remarks:

  1. Not applicable to persons aged under 18 or over 70.
  2. The Security Bureau of the Government of HKSAR has launched the "Outbound Travel Alert (OTA) System" which uses amber, red and black signals to differentiate among different levels of risk. This system will cover the countries which are more popular travel destinations for HKSAR residents aiming to help HKSAR residents better understand the risk or threat to personal safety in travelling overseas.

Travel Delay/Re-routing

Important Notes

  • Limitation: All insured person(s) must be legal resident(s) of Hong Kong aged between 6 weeks and 75 years.

  • Notes for application:
      Individual application for insurance is required for persons aged 18 or above. For persons aged between 6 weeks and 17 years who are not traveling with parents, they can apply for Single Travel Plan or Annual Travel Plan individually provided that full adult's premium is paid and the entire journey is accompanied by and with the custody care of an adult. The maximum benefit payable for "Medical and Relevant Expense" will be the same as adults aged 18 to 70.
      The proposal form must be duly signed by a parent or guardian if the person is under 18 years old.

  • Free Student Overseas Travel Cover:

    All unmarried full time students in Hong Kong aged between 6 weeks and 23 years will be entitled to Free Student Overseas Travel Cover under the Single Travel Plan or Annual Travel Plan. The entire journey of short-term overseas study for students aged between 6 weeks and 17 years has to be accompanied by and with the custody care of an adult.

  • Maximum cover period:
      Single Travel Plan – subject to a maximum of 180 days.
      Annual Travel Plan – maximum 60 days for each trip.

Pre-existing physical defects or sickness, act of war, civil commotion, terrorism, professional sports team, suicide, pregnancy, influence of alcohol, drug addiction, AIDS, traveling for the purpose of study (except Student Overseas Travel Cover), migration, business trip involving any dangerous assignments, projects or occupation of a manual nature.

Remarks:

  1. Once the cover for Single Travel Plan is in effect, no refund of premium is allowed.
  2. "Insured Person & Spouse" refers to legally married couple.
  3. "Insured Person & Child(ren)" refers to father or mother travelling with all the legally dependent unmarried child(ren) who is (are) 6 weeks to 17 years old.
  4. "Family" refers to legally married couple with all the legally dependent unmarried child(ren) who is (are) 6 weeks to 17 years old. If the family is insured, the maximum benefit payable in each covered section shall not exceed 200% in aggregate of the amount specified in the selected plan (not applicable to "Loss of Home Contents" & "24-hour Emergency Assistance Service" and the benefit limit for insured person aged under 18 or over 70 in "Personal Accident" & "Compassionate Death Cash Benefit").
  5. Area 1: Restricted to the Mainland of China, the Taiwan region, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Brunei, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Korea, Japan and Guam.
  6. Area 2: Worldwide.
  7. One legally dependent unmarried child who is 6 weeks to 17 years old can enjoy free coverage if his/her father or mother is insured under the Annual Travel Plan.
  8. Only applicable to payment settled through BOC Credit Card 12-Month Interest-free Monthly Instalment.
  9. If the policyholder terminates the Annual Travel Plan, he/she will still be required to pay at least 50% of the total premium.

  1. Who can apply for this insurance and is there any limitation for the insured person?

    Person aged 18 or above who is legal resident of HK and person aged below 18 with application for insurance made by parent or guardian can apply for this insurance. All insured persons must be legal residents of HK aged between 6 weeks and 75 years.

  2. Can the child(ren) aged below 18 enroll in this insurance individually? Is there any limitation?

    Yes, for person aged between 6 weeks and 17 years old who is traveling without the companionship of parents, he/she can enroll in Single Travel Plan or Annual Travel Plan individually provided that adult’s premium is fully paid and the entire journey is accompanied by and with the custody care of an adult.

  3. Does family cover include the insured person's spouse, child(ren) and parent?

    No, family cover only includes the insured person, his or her spouse and child between 6 weeks and 17 years old. Parents of the insured person have to apply on standalone basis.

  4. Can I enroll in travel insurance after the commencement of my journey?

    No, you must successfully enroll in travel insurance prior to your departure from Hong Kong.

  5. How can I enjoy the "Student Overseas Travel cover"?

    "Student Overseas Travel Cover" is a free and automatically extended protection under the "Universal Travel Insurance". This cover allows students to enjoy adequate protection when studying, sightseeing or visiting relatives during travel period.

  6. How long is the covered period in "Universal Travel Insurance"?

    The period of insurance for "Annual Travel Plan" is one year and the maximum cover period for each trip is up to 60 days and with no limit on the number of trips during the covered year. As regard to "Single Travel Plan", the maximum cover period is 180 days.

  7. After the travel insurance policy takes effect, can I extend the insurance period?

    Yes, the Insured Person can extend the insurance period as long as the original insurance period is still valid. Notice may be given by the Insured Person's family or related person to the BOCG Insurance or our authorized agent. Extended period of insurance will only be effective after BOCG Insurance issued an endorsement & charged with the appropriate additional premium.

  8. If an incident happened during the travel period, what should I do?

    If an accident happened during the travel period, you should stay calm and immediately notify the relevant organization such as police, airline and travel agency and you must keep all the original receipt including police report, doctor's report, purchase receipt for necessities consumption, etc. Once returned to HK, you should submit the completed claim form together with all claims documents & reports to BOCG Insurance Claims Dept. as soon as possible for handling.

  9. If the purpose of my overseas travel is for migration, will the covered items in the plan still be valid?

    No, application for the "Universal Travel Insurance" due to the purpose of migration will not be accepted.

  10. If the travel agency I joined close down, can I get any compensation?

    No, you should submit your claim to the "Travel Industry Compensation Fund".

  11. What is the "24-hour Worldwide Emergency Assistance Service"?

    "24-hour Worldwide Emergency Assistance Service" is an additional benefit to the Insured Person. The Insured Person can obtain free 24-hour worldwide emergency assistance services such as travel information, medical advice, and legal assistance whilst traveling abroad by simply dialing the Emergency Assistance Hotline.

  12. Will the policy of Annual Travel Plan be automatically renewed each year?

    Yes, if you do not receive any amendment notices for renewal terms from BOCG Insurance before the expiry date of the policy, your policy will be automatically renewed and continuously in force upon your payment of renewal premium for the coming policy year.
